Weaving Techniques

Three constructions, chosen by use and specification.

Hand-Tufted

Hand-Tufted

Yarn punched through a stretched canvas with a tufting gun, then hand-trimmed and bound. Best for large pieces with painterly designs. Lead time: 4–8 weeks.

Hand-Knotted

Hand-Knotted

Each knot tied individually around warp threads. The most durable and most expensive method. Best for heirloom pieces and high-traffic commercial. Lead time: 12–24 weeks.

Flatweave / Kilim

Flatweave / Kilim

No pile — interlocking warp and weft. Reversible, lightweight, perfect for hallways and layering. Lead time: 6–10 weeks.

Finishing
Finishing & Maintenance

The last 10% is what makes the rug.

  • Edges & Fringes — Hand-knotted fringe, machine-overlock binding, leather binding, contrast wool tape, or no fringe at all. We discuss the room first.
  • Embossing & Carving — Sculpted relief on hand-tufted pieces. Adds depth without extra color.
  • Care — Vacuum weekly without a beater bar. Spot-clean cool. Professional clean every 18–24 months for residential, 6–12 months for commercial.
  • Longevity — Hand-knotted wool: 40–80 years. Hand-tufted: 15–25 years. Flatweave: 10–20 years. All depend on traffic and care.
